The Head Coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Charles Akunnor has stated that the three Ashanti Gold SC players who have been transferred to Kotoko are not going to be first team starters, but are going to bring competition in their area of the game.
Coach C. K. Akunnor made this revelation during an interview with “The Nation’s presenter” Enoch Kwasi Wolanyo Wallace on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite”. He said “Shafiu Mumuni, James Akaminko and Richard Djodi are players who we considered because they can control air balls and give accurate passes. We needed a player that takes on his opponent when the ball is given to him, someone who can control and wait for his attackers to come release the ball to them.”
“Senanu has done so well. We are impressed and happy about the way he is playing but he also needed competition. If these players will really come, then they have to come and compete because they will not come and find it easy”, Coach Akunnor added.
“Let me be honest. As a coach, if a player is brought into a team and you don’t known him or not sure of his fitness level, it will be a problem for you”, he reiterated.
Kotoko, after booking their ticket to the group stage of the Confederations Cup, needed to strengthen and sharpen their team by adding Ashanti Gold SC trio Shafu Mumuni, Richard Djodi and James Akaminko. But management of Ashanti Gold are not willing to release these players to Kotoko.
