Deputy Minister almost lynched by irate youth of Ekumfi Eyisam in Central Region

Tempers rose high and almost resulted in a brawl when Mr. Kingsley Ato Cudjoe, Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development who doubles as the Honourable Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Eyisam in the central region was booed and nearly lynched by some irate unemployed youth of the area.

This event occurred on Saturday 8th September when the deputy minister, who was a Special guest during the durbar of chiefs and people of Ekumfi Eyisam at their annual Akwanbo Festival, mounted the podium to deliver a speech.

As soon as he mounted the podium, the youth who were mostly former workers at various galamsey sites in Tarkwa and its environs in the Western Region began booing the MP for the area and questioning him when the much awaited jobs that were promised the people of Ghana during the election campaign by the President would come. They couldn’t fathom why they should loose their jobs under the presidency of the same person who promised them jobs.

But for the intervention of the Ekumfi District Chief Executive (DCE) Bernard Paa Grant and some security officers, the irate youth would have beaten the MP up. He was rushed out of the venue in his vehicle but youth blocked his vehicle and started hitting his car. This got the DCE for the area angry which led to him alighting from his vehicle to confront the angry youth.

The youths who were involved in the act are expected to be summoned before the chiefs for quarries and sanctions.
