The Chief Executive Officer of Premier League side AshGold SC, Frederick Acheampong has debunked rumors circulating on social media that AshGold was getting ready to make a petition to represent Ghana in Africa.
Reacting to questions during an interview on Accra based Happy FM, he explained that per the last GHALCA meeting, the official stance is that the league remains suspended until the a final decision is taken on the subject matter during congress.
He explained further that if the league remains suspended, it means that the league is valid. So we were thinking that we (AshGold) will be told to represent Ghana in Africa since we were leading the log before the suspension was placed on the league.
He also explained that he “thought the agenda was going to be which club will represent Ghana in Africa. But surprisingly, the agenda was whether Ghana should go to Africa or not, and I was taken aback.“
“We debated about the issue and majority decided not to participate in Africa club competition so we didn’t even come to the point of deciding who should represent Ghana or who is qualified for African Club competition,” he added.
Mr. Acheampong was of the view it will be a waste of resources and energy trying to fight what he thinks will not benefit him. “…so that is why we have decided to rather channel our focus on playing our mini tournament,” he explained.
