Former Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye believes the country’s inability to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will be held in Russia could be a blessing for the country.
The four-time African champions failed to qualify for the Mundial for the fourth time after playing in Germany, South Africa and Brazil respectively.
Despite the country’s inability to qualify, the member for the people of Odododiodio constituency believes it is about time the country put proper structures in place to ensure smooth qualification 2020.
“We didn’t qualify but today I want people [GFA] to tell us what our target is, what we are doing to be able to qualify for the next World Cup. We must sit down and know what we have to do in the medium term and long term in order to achieve this goal.
“This is not the time to talk about Nii Lante and Kwesi Nyantakyi and think about what to do in order to get the next World Cup, to some extent our inability to qualify could be a blessing.
“We have to start thinking about how to get the players, how to psyche them, how to nurture them and create a conducive atmosphere and identify where to get the resources to achieve this goal,” Hon. Vanderpuye said on the Football Legends Night Show on GHONE TV.
