President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo has questioned opposition leader, John Mahama’s credibility with regards with the Free SHS policy that many Ghanaians have benefited from.
According to the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, John Mahama has no moral right to campaign about the policy which he (Mahama) touted as impossible due to the lack of infrastructure in the various senior high schools.
It will be recalled that Akufo-Addo made the free SHS his flagship campaign promise in the build up to the 2008 elections but Ghanaians didn’t buy the idea at the time through to 2016 when he was given the chance to become president.
He implemented the policy in his first year of administration, taking away the burden of parents who are unable to pay for school fees though it has since received a lot of backlash.
John Mahama on his campaign rallies have signaled that the next NDC administration under his watch will abolish the double track system to make the policy more efficient for students and parents.
However, Nana Akufo-Addo thinks otherwise, he that the double track makes a lot of sense coming from the fact that, it enables the usage of the school facilities which becomes dormant for close to 6 months every year when the schools are on vacation.
