Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo has broken his silence on his recent appointment to the top GFA position.
On 2nd January 2020, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) released press statement indicating that legal practitioner Prosper Harrison Addo has been appointed as the General Secretary for the Ghana Football Association; something a lot of people immediately concluded that the job was given to him on a sliver platter because his close association with GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku.
It will be recalled that the GFA President earlier on disclosed during an interview that he can’t work with his enemies, and it generated a lot of taking point in the media.
Meanwhile, addressing issues surrounding his appointment, Prosper stated in an interview with celebrated sports journalist Saddick Adams on Angel FM’s “Floodlights show” that the vacancy was announced and he applied for it. “We were asked to write an application letter, a policy statement and a Curriculum Vitae (CV), and email it to the appropriate channel.
“We were shortlisted so I wonder why people think the job was given to me on a sliver platter. I met people who were also shortlisted and came for the interview and I can’t mention names”.
However, he stated that People who came for the interview are in the sports fraternity and they were about Six (6) of them.
He further stated that his passion for the sports played a big role in him leaving his previous job.
Lawyer Addo was Senior Manager – Compliance at Scancom Limited (MTN Ghana), where he also previously held the position of Manager for the Commercial Legal department.
He is a member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and also an associate member of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana.
Lawyer Addo has held various positions in football administration including Disciplinary Committee Chairman for the Greater Accra Region Football Association, GFA Disciplinary Committee Chairman – Member, FA Cup Committee and a Member of the GFA Legal Committee for many years.
