Nigeria was scheduled to go to the polls today to elect a president. But to their shock and amazement, the election was postponed barely 5 hours to the elections.
This announcement was made by the head of the Independent Nigerian Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in a hurriedly arranged press conference, citing logistical challenges as the reason for the cancellation of the election which has been rescheduled for next week Saturday.
Many Nigerians woke up to the surprise news, with some even brushing it off as fake news.
As a result, there has been an outpouring of frustration and anger on social media with many people labeling the EC as incompetent.
Some people had to travel as far as 550Km only to be told that the elections had been postponed.
One Nigerian Facebook user, Chidera Hopewell Stephen, even wrote “If people had to choose their nationality, nobody will be Nigerian”.
