Nana Addo rewards Richard Commey with a Toyota car and ¢50,000 for winning IBF World Title

Richard Commey (New IBF Lightweight World Champion) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced government willingness to dash new IBF lightweight world champion, Richard Commey a brand new Toyota vehicle for his recent exploits of winning the title against Russian boxer Isa Chaniev. Richard Commey is to receive an additional 50,000 Cedis from the presidency. 

Nana Akufo-Addo made this known during a courtesy call on him by Richard at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday to present his championship belt to him.

Richard, on February 2nd this year made his second crack at the vacant IBF lightweight title count by claiming his first world title with a second round stoppage of Isa Chaniev.

Announcing the package, the President said “In terms of this achievement, it may not be very much but there’s little that we can do; they’re [the government] gonna buy you a car… The office of the president is also adding 50,000 cedis to it.”

President Akuffo-Addo described the gift as “a small token” from his government “for the honour you’ve brought to our nation,” and encouraged him to “keep it up”.

Nana Akufo-Addo added that he will make arrangements for the vehicle from the Ministry of Sports to be delivered to him. He also promised that government will do its best to support boxing in the country.
