Embattled CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah has been granted new bail terms after his lawyers applied for a variance to his initial bail terms; something many described as too harsh.
Even though the Presiding Judge, Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye failed to reduce the bail amount, she dropped the condition where three of his five sureties must be justified.
Nana Appiah Mensah was granted bail at the sum of GH¢1bn during his first appearance in court on July 26, 2019. However, it has been a daunting task meeting the bail conditions because of huge amount involved; and on the back of the fact that his assets have been frozen by government.
His lawyers were bent on persuading the court to reduce his bail conditions to a more reasonable level. But he could only get the trail judge to massage the sureties, but not the bail amount.
The business magnate is standing after he is alleged to have defrauded Ghanaians to a tune of GH¢1.6bn.
