The Ministry of Communications has observed with grave concern the manner at which Ghanaians are misusing the 112 Emergency Service line.
In lieu of this, the Ministry has stated that all numbers that make prank calls to 112 will be blocked and prevented from making future calls.
In a Press statement, the Ministry of Communications stated that in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, and between 28th January 2020 and 16th March 2020, the Emergency call center recorded at total of One Million, nine hundred and two thousand, nine hundred and twenty six calls.
Out of this number, 99.16% were prank related calls.
Within this period, Ghanaians have had a cause to also complain about their inability to get through the call center number.
So from the “27th of March 2020, all prank callers will be blocked to get Ghana’s emergency system to work effectively. It is the most practical way to ensuring that those in need of help get it”.
