Opinion: NPP will have Dr Bawumia to blame in case they lose Election 2020

Election 2020 is just at the corner and all political parties have intensified campaign strategies and communication skills have become very handy in articulating campaign strategies and promises.

Dr Bawumia did a yeoman’s job in the build-up to the last general elections in 2016. In fact, he became the poster boy for the New Patriotic Party with his excellent analysis of the Ghanaian economy which according to him, was sinking because of the incompetence of John Dramani Mahama.

One major factor that led to John Mahama’s defeat in 2016 was his decision to boldly declare his government’s decision not to pay the Teacher and Nurses trainee allowances even at the peril of his presidency. The NPP at the time took advantage of that to convince these trainees to canvas for votes.

Dr Bawumia has also made a similar mistake by making a declaration about the Akufo-Addo led administration’s decision not to legalize the operations of Okada business but rather give out cars for them to use, pay and own. This blunder is cynical and has obviously put the NDC in good stead of winning the numerous Okada operators to vote for John Mahama.

One would, first of all, ask which roads will contain the number of cars that will be given out by the government? In as much as there some good roads in the major cities, it is also true that the roads are not big enough in size to contain the huge vehicular traffic in our cities.

The least said about those living in rural areas the better because most of the roads are in very bad conditions so passengers often resort to motorbikes due to its convenience. Meanwhile, the public outcry of these people for the construction of good roads have not been properly attended to.

However, it has become obvious that the current communication director of the NPP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah is either incompetent or have lost the firm grip of the machinery. Nana Akomea in 2016 devised good communication strategies for the party but 2020 has become difficult for the NPP because of the lack of direction.

The president of Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe recently took to social media to register his displeasure of the ruling NPP’s communication strategy and those who represent the party on radio and TV shows.

According to the president of the Think Tank group, Felix Ofosu Kwakye and Sammy Gyamfi have always been mesmerizing their NPP opponents and make them look unprepared for radio and TV punditries. Moreover, NDC communicators have painted Dr Bawumia as someone who doesn’t speak to facts and a big liar.

I can’t agree less about his observations and as a matter of urgency, the party will have to gather all their arsenals for a united front to battle for power in the December 7th polls. The likes of Dr Mustapha Hamid and Nana Akomea have taken it upon themselves to represent even though they haven’t been for couriers of the communication team for some time now. The center cannot hold if they don’t restrategize and focus or else things will fall apart.
