Pastor leads church members to beat up mortuary man for refusing to allow them resurrect dead congregant

Edward Mensah Akpakudi (National Chairman of the Ghana Mortuary Workers Association)

The National Chairman of the Ghana Mortuary Workers Association (MOWAG), Edward Mensah Akpakudi has revealed that a pastor in Sunyani and some of his church members beat up a mortuary attendant after he refused to let them resurrect one of their members who had died earlier in the day.

Speaking with KSM on the “Bo Me Nkomo show”, he said “One of our members was called to come back to the hospital because some people have come requesting that they see the body of their member; their pastor said the person is not dead but alive, so they want to pray for him. The mortuary worker responded in affirmative but these church folks beat him up.”

Mr. Akpakudi alleged that the head at that hospital went behind the mortuary association to take GHC300 compensation for the victim and covered the case up.

According to the mortuary worker who has about 24-years experience in the field, the nature of their work is very wearisome. Also, those in authority have abandoned them to their fate; several pleas have all fallen on deaf ears.

The mortuary workers union recently embarked on a strike seeking better conditions of service. And according to their National Chairman, the association has been in talks with government for an increase in their salaries and better conditions of service. But they are still yet to receive any positive response from government.

The association has since suspended their strike and are hoping for their grievances to be addressed by the government.
