President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has put the matter of legalizing Lesbians, Gay, Bisexuals, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) to rest in his latest address to a church congregation.
The banter on social media has over the days become intense as many people including legal practitioners, Catholic Bishops Conference, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Chief Imam, Traditional leaders and other opinion leaders have shared their divergent opinions on the subject matter.
Some videos have surfaced online, where people suspected to be gays and lesbians have been subjected to different forms of abuse including verbal and physical abuse on social and traditional media.
However, the commander in chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, Akufo-Addo has repeatedly in a video stated today at the ST Michael and All Angels Cathedral of the Asante Mampong Anglican Diocese that it won’t happen in his tenure as president to legalize the operation of the LGBTQI’s.
“I’ve said this before and let me conclusively stress again that it will not be under the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that same-sex marriage will be legalized”, he stressed.
The declaration received a rapturous applause from the congregation and the conglomerate of Anglican priest who were present at the occasion and couldn’t hide their excitement over the strong declaration.
