The Communications Director for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Elvis Agyei Baah has stated on authority that the Senior Women National team of Ghana, the Black Queens, have been pains all outstanding bonuses after exiting from the group stage of the 2018 Total African Women Cup of Nation tournament (AWCON) being played in Ghana.
Mr. Baah was speaking to Kobby Stonne El-Capitano on Multimedia’s Asempa 94.7 FM through a phone conversation and made it clear that “what the ministry needed to do, what they needed to give and what the queens needed to receive from the ministry has all been given out to them even before the ladies left camp. It is needless that I stay on radio to disclose the amount of money the girls received, but I can say on authority that we have paid them every thing that they deserved.”
He added that it “is about time we moved away from discussing the amount of money the Queens got or money as motivation for the team. Moreover, we all know how donations came in from all angles; for example from the Chief of Staff, the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament”.
He added that the package the ministry gave to the Queens has not been disclosed to the public because we don’t believe that we should mention these figures on radio or social media. Playing for the Black Queens requires patriotism. And commitment has to be inculcated into the Queens rather than focusing on money.
The Black Queens got eliminated from the group stage in AWCON 2018 after playing three matches and recording a lone goal win against Algeria, a defeat to Mali by one goal to two and a draw in their final group game against Cameroon.
