Who has a better record of giving women appointments between NPP and NDC?

Former President and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has got the whole Ghana talking after he decided to defy all odds to choose a female running mate in the build-up to the 2020 general elections.

The appointment of the former moderator of presidential debates organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) who doubles as a former minister for Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has been welcomed with mixed reactions from Ghanaians and more so, people who are not that much into politics.

The subject of women empowerment has been an unending topic from time immemorial as some women advocates have applauded the appointment of the mother of three. With the impeccable track records of her professional life, some NPP communicators have decided to subject her to scrutiny and of course, you can’t blame any of them.

We are looking at some appointments made by the two main political parties in the past and present to ascertain which of the two has a better record than the other. Below is a list of some appointments done by both the NPP and NDC.

1. First female Chief of Staff- Mrs Akosua Frema Osei Opare

2. First female Chief Justice- Justice Georgina Wood

3. 2nd female Chief Justice – Justice Sophia Akuffo

4. Dr. Grace Bediako First woman to be appointed Government Statistician

5. NPP has a female Deputy Majority Leader- Adwoa Safo

6. Of the 36 Female MPs, NPP has 24, NDC has 12.

The NPP was the first government to establish a women focused ministry – the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs.

When the NDC came into office, they appointed a woman to that ministry who ended up fighting her fellow women who were her deputies.

The difference is clear!
